The Rundown
Trinity slipped out to an early five-point lead, but Colorado College tied it with five straight points. The game was still tied 14-14 just before the 11-minute mark when Trinity made its move by scoring 10 of the next 12 points, and the hometown Tigers led by eight heading into the under-eight timeout.
The lead grew as large as nine points at 27-18 with under seven minutes to play, but that's when Colorado College scored six unanswered to make it a one-possession game approaching the three-minute mark. The lead was back to five with just 42 seconds left, but Colorado College made a late push with six points in the waning seconds to take a 35-34 lead. That included a buzzer-beating fast break three-pointer after a Trinity turnover, leading to the only lead of the half for Colorado College.
After the break, both teams had small leads to start the second period, but Trinity took control when Jenkins capped a 6-0 run with four straight points at the 16:20 mark. That lead nearly doubled as Trinity then piled on by scoring 11 of 13 points during a three-and-a-half-minute stretch to take a 56-45 advantage.
The lead was still 10 with under eight minutes left when Colorado College made a run to draw within three at the 5:54 mark. Colorado College scored eight of nine points during the run, but Trinity answered with five straight points of its own to go back in front by eight just over a minute later.
Both teams traded runs after that, with Colorado College getting back within three at 69-72, and Trinity hit four straight free throws to take the lead back to seven with under three minutes to play. Colorado College never got closer than five after that, and Trinity hit three straight layups in the final 1:06 of the game to seal the win.
