Box Score HOUSTON – Trinity's seventh-ranked women's soccer team opened up a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend on the road with a 3-0 victory at the University of St. Thomas on Friday night.
The Tigers (15-0-1, 11-0-0 SCAC) found scores from sophomore Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford), senior Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) and first-year Hanna Kahn (Southlake, Texas / Carroll). Bosco added a third point, assisting the second goal of the evening punched in by Sheridan for the 2-0 halftime mark.
Trinity moved into a streak of 11 straight shutouts with the win Friday as sophomore keeper Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) patrolled the posts for all 90 minutes, while the back line of senior Bailey Meyer (Southlake, Texas / Carroll), first-year Isla Newland (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) and junior Ashlyn Zingelmann (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis) kept a zero in the Celts' shots on goal column, limiting Friday's host to just three shots on the night.
No. 7/8 Women's Soccer concludes its road trip in Shreveport, Louisiana Sunday afternoon against Centenary College (LA).
The Rundown
Trinity was on the offensive from the opening kick in this one, peppering the St. Thomas defense with a relentless attack. The Tigers fired their first shot of the game in the opening minute, then had a flurry of shots over a span of less than two minutes.
Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) missed the opening shot of the game over the top of the goal, then as the clock ticked past nine minutes, Sheridan got in on the action. Sheridan had two attempts and Bosco had another in the 10th minute alone, then Alana Wickham (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall) hit the cross bar just seconds later. Despite that, St. Thomas was able to keep the game scoreless to that point.
St. Thomas got its first corner kick of the game in the 14th minute, which led to the first shot of the game for the Celts.
Less than a minute after Trinity was caught in an offside position, Bosco was able to get the Tigers on the board. Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) took a throw-in for Trinity deep in the St. Thomas end of the field, finding Bosco just inside the 18-yard box. Bosco was immediately double-teamed, but she turned, overcame a tackle attempt by a St. Thomas defender and found herself alone in the six-yard box. Bosco rifled her third shot of the game past the keeper and put Trinity on top 1-0 in the 19th minute.
Just over 10 minutes later, Bosco became the facilitator as she spun towards goal and found Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) just inside the penalty area. Sheridan promptly turned and fired in a shot from 15 yards out to put the Tigers ahead comfortably at 2-0 with just under 16 minutes left until halftime. Neither team had another shot the rest of the period and it remained a two-goal game after one period.
The scoring went quiet as the Tigers were content to cruise on their two-score advantage until a free kick placed just outside the 18' set up first-year Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) for an aggressive attempt through the entire Celts team, leading to the eventual 3-0 tally.
Numbers to Note
Sheridan's 14th goal on the season put her into the top 10 all-time with 43 career goals at Trinity tied with Julia Camp '18. Her total of 109 points ranks 12th all-time.
Bosco's tally maintained her team-high on the season, now at 15. With three regular-season matches remaining, the sophomore is nearly on pace to reach the top 10 in season scoring, a threshold of 19 goals.
