Thackerville, Okla. – After weather postponed the Crusader Invitational and limited the tournament to just a single round of play on Tuesday, the 19th-ranked Trinity men's golf team finished seventh with a team score of 306 at the Winstar Golf Club.
The Tigers were just four shots from cracking the top five and three teams shot under 300 for the 18-hole event. LeTourneau University won with a team score of 291 on Tuesday.
Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) led Trinity with a two-over 74 and sported the day's only eagle. Sandhu was four-over after seven holes, but rallied with a birdie and eagle on eight and nine to make the turn at one-over. He bogeyed 10, then scored par on each of the final eight holes to close his day, tying for seventh individually.
Daniel Nunez (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) finished in a tie for 12th with his three-over-par 75 on Tuesday. Nunez had a pair of birdies on the front nine and matched Sandhu at one-over heading to the 10th hole. He also bogeyed the par-four 10th, then did the same on the 16th to wind up one shot back of his teammate.
Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) was the final Trinity player in the top 20 individually, tying for 19th with his four-over score of 76. Mason had 14 pars to lead the Tigers and had a birdie on the par-five 12th. He had just one bogey in the round, though he did have a pair of doubles that kept his score just ahead of his teammates.
