Box Score SAN ANTONIO – No. 8 Trinity University Women's Soccer celebrated Senior Day Friday night with a 5-0 victory over Southwestern University at Paul McGinlay Field, in the second-to-last Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match of the 2022 regular season.
The Tigers (17-0-1, 13-0 SCAC) collected the first three of their five goals on the evening via three of the seven seniors honored prior to the match. Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) tallied the gamewinner less than 90 seconds into play, assisted by fellow senior Ashlyn Zingelmann (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis) who later collected the third goal of the evening to open a late second-half barrage. In between, Alana Wickham (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall) posted the fifth goal of her career, and second this season.
Alongside the three senior goal-scorers in the pre-match festivities were Emma Everts (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa), Bella Ferruzzi (McKinney, Texas / Boyd), Bailey Meyer (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) and Cassie Bowers (Lafayette, La. / Episcopal School of Acadiana). The two-time NCAA III Round of 16 senior class collected the 59th victory of its collective career in Friday's result over the Pirates.
No. 8 Trinity Women's Soccer concludes the 2022 regular season Sunday afternoon against Texas Lutheran University in a battle of the already-determined top two seeds in the upcoming Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, also to be played in San Antonio, November 4-6.
The Rundown
In about as much time as it took for the Tigers to take the field from introductions, Trinity got on the board as an excellent throw-in on Sheridan's upfield shoulder from Zingelmann sprung the posted-up forward for an easy opportunity from the left post.
Though the Tigers found the back of the net just once in the first 45 minutes, the offense maintained an onslaught pace with 16 shots fired, seven on frame, to pester the Pirates' keeper. As reserves, Abby Schneider (Albuquerque, N.M. / Bosque) and Hanna Kahn (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) each accounted for two of the other six attempts on goal after the Sheridan strike.
Just as it did in the October 7 visit to Georgetown, Texas, Trinity turned on the jets after intermission with four goals to the total. Wickham collected a deflected cross from Maya Ozymy (Dallas, Texas / Coppell) right of the goal just inside the 18' and found space to fire away and double the advantage in the 57'.
The third and final senior honoree to score Friday, Zingelmann was the first of two goals in a 75-second span of the second half. On one of the Tigers' six second-period corners, Zingelmann recovered her own rebound on the out-of-position Southwestern keeper for an easy drop into the lower left corner. Kahn followed up just-over a minute later as she found the top shelf inside the left post.
To put the exclamation mark on the regular-season sweep of the Pirates, Ozymy created space for herself on the right post to await a driving Schneider who escorted her mark all the way down the sideline, into the corner and within five yards of the post Ozymy had occupied.
