No. 8 Women's Soccer Posts Sixth Undefeated Regular Season in 10 Years, 4-0 over TLU

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO – No. 8 Trinity University Women's Soccer finished its seventh undefeated regular season of the last decade Sunday in a 4-0 victory over Texas Lutheran University in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Paul McGinlay Field.

The Tigers (18-0-1, 14-0 SCAC) witnessed senior Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) move into a tie for eighth all-time in program history with her 47th career goal in the second half of the regular-season finale, her 18th of the 2022 campaign.

First-year Hanna Kahn (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) supplied half of Trinity's output Sunday with unassisted strikes in the 41' and 69'. Sophomore Taylor Campbell (Edinburg, Texas / Robert Vela) posted the Tigers' second 90-seconds-or-less delivery of the weekend as she scored 88 seconds after the opening kickoff for the gamewinner.

Sophomore keeper Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) collected her 15th victory of the season as she patrolled between the posts for Trinity's 14th straight shutout win.

No. 8 Trinity Women's Soccer is set to host the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship next weekend, hosting the second-seed Bulldogs, third-seed Southwestern University and fourth-seed Schreiner University November 4-6.

The Rundown

Friday's 5-0 result over the Pirates saw the Tigers find the back of the net in just 89 seconds off the right foot of Sheridan; Campbell bested her senior teammate collecting a rebound from an Alana Wickham (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall) attempt from straightaway just inside the 18'.

Sheridan posted Trinity's other on-target attempt in the first period as she found herself wide open within 10 yards of the goal and collected a Josephine McCray (Fairway, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East) cross but the Texas Lutheran keeper was locked onto the prolific Tiger scorer.

The second wave for the Tigers matched the first in the 41' as Khan took in a pass from Erin Heath (Lake Jackson, Texas) at the left corner of the 18' and drove past two Bulldog defenders to bank her attempt from the left post off the TLU keeper to double the Tiger advantage just before the break.

For good measure, Maya Ozymy (Dallas, Texas / Coppell) stole the ball just ahead of the midline and tucked a shot just inside the right post, only for the Bulldog keeper to get a fingertip in front of the attempt in the final seconds of the first.

In just the third minute after intermission, the Tigers found another corner opportunity for Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) who served one up directly to the head of Sheridan in the keeper area for her 18th score of the season and 47th of her career which moved into a tie for eighth all-time in the Trinity program. Sheridan looked to break the tie in the career scoring mark in the 52' with her third on-frame attempt of the match from just inside the right corner of the 18'.

Khan returned for her second score in the 69' as she was fed the ball about 25 yards out and separated from her Bulldog defender to fire from the 18'. Unlike the 2018 Chicago Bears, the Tiger rookie successfully scored on a "double doink" as her attempt ricocheted inside the left post, rolled across the line to the right post, then settled near the back-right corner of the goal.

Notable Numbers

Sheridan's second-half strike marked her 47th career goal and tied Lindsay Rowland (2001-03) for eighth all-time in Trinity history. The St. Louis-native will need to reach the 50-mark before ascending further in the Tiger record book.

Trinity's 4-0 regular-season finale marked the sixth undefeated regular season of the last 10 seasons including the COVID-shortened spring 2021 campaign. The Tigers posted four such seasons in a row from 2013 to 2016 that featured three NCAA III postseason runs to, or past, the round of 16 including the program's appearance in the 2013 NCAA III National Championship final and 2016 NCAA III Quarterfinals.

Up Next

No. 8 Trinity Women's Soccer will host the 2022 SCAC Women's Soccer Championship next weekend, and opens the tournament schedule at 5 p.m. Friday against the fourth-seeded Mountaineers of Schreiner.

The NCAA III Women's Soccer National Championship selection announcement will be made the following Monday, November 7.
