Tiger Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at UMHB Fall Invitational

TEMPLE, Texas – Trinity's men's golf team finished sixth after Tuesday's final round of the UMHB Men's Golf Fall Invitational, hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at Sammons Park Golf Club.

The Tigers shot a team score of 289 in the second round, which is one shot better than yesterday's team score, and 18 shots behind East Texas Baptist University in first place.

DAY ONE RECAP

Daniel Nunez (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) led the way for Trinity with an overall score of 143 to tie for 15th individually during the two-day event. He shot a plus-four 74 on Tuesday, mixing in three birdies in the 18 holes of action. Nunez led the team with seven total birdies for the tournament, tying for ninth place among all competitors.

Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) shaved two strokes off of his first-round score, carding a one-over 71 to tie for the team's low score for the day. Sandhu led the Tigers with 25 pars among his 36 holes, tying for second in the field in that category and 18th in overall scoring.

Dennis Butts (Houston, Texas / Stratford) had the best improvement from day one to day two, knocking off three strokes from his first round to tie Sandhu for the low score of the day. Butts was one of 12 players in the field to average even-par on Par 4 scoring, and he tied for 21st individually in the tournament.

Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) tied for 29th with his total score of 147 in the tournament, and was tied for 16th with 23 pars over the last two days. Mason also improved his score by one stroke in the second round.

Trinity will be idle for the next week, then will host its annual Alamo City Classic at The Quarry Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday, October 10-11. The Tiger men close out the fall portion of the schedule at the Crusader Invitational on October 24-25 at Winstar Golf Club in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
