Box Score SHERMAN, Texas – No. 7/9 Trinity University Women's Soccer took out Austin College, 8-0, to open the road slate of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action Friday night in North Texas.
The Tigers (8-0-1, 4-0-0 SCAC) posted 25 shots on goal as eight different players found the back of the net, nearly doubling their season-best of 14 on frame against University of Texas-Dallas.
Trinity more than doubled its previous high mark on the offensive end thanks to eight different Tigers finding the back of the net, the most since having eight unique scorers at Centenary College and at Texas Lutheran University in the 2017 season. Trinity has scored eight or more in 11 matches since the start of the 2017 campaign.
On top of eight unique scorers, four Tigers notched their first goal of the 2022 campaign: senior defender Bailey Meyer (Southlake, Texas / Carroll), junior midfielder Ashlyn Zingelmann (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis), junior midfielder Emily Hayes (Allen, Texas / Allen) and first-year midfielder Erin Heath (Lake Jackson, Texas).
Senior forward Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) took credit for the gamewinning goal as the lone scorer in the first half.
No. 7/9 Trinity Women's Soccer continues road SCAC action Sunday in Irving, Texas against University of Dallas. The Tigers return home Wednesday, October 12 to host Schreiner University in SCAC play.
The Rundown
Sheridan put the Tigers on the board just before the 30' mark in front of the net off a rebound from an attempt by sophomore forward Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford).
The Tigers put up four more shots on frame in the final 15 minutes of the first period. Through 45 minutes, junior defender Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M / Hope Christian) had logged three of Trinity's nine attempts on goal, followed by two apiece from Sheridan and senior midfielder Alana Wickham (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall).
Back-to-back scores came about in the 58' from a pair of successful strikes from Southlake Carroll graduates. Meyer doubled the Trinity tally, aided by Stafford, then rookie forward Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) went solo just-over 30 seconds later.
In the 64', Stafford offered another helpful touch for sophomore midfielder Taylor Campbell (Edinburg, Texas / Robert Vela). A little over two minutes later, Zingelmann pushed the Trinity offense to its highest output of the season, and a 5-0 margin, on the first assist of the season from Hayes.
The Tigers continued to pour it on with three goals between the 75' and 80' window. Hayes collected her first score of the season just-over 10 minutes after her first assist, helped by Bosco. Just two minutes before, Hayes added a second dime, this time for sophomore midfielder Maya Ozymy (Dallas, Texas / Coppell). First-year Erin Heath (Lake Jackson, Texas) rounded out the offensive onslaught on a solo strike, the first of her collegiate career, with roughly 12 minutes to go.
