GEORGETOWN, Texas – Trinity University Men's Basketball flipped its own script Saturday night as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's leader in scoring used stingy defense en route to a 63-50 victory at Southwestern University in league play.
The Tigers (13-4, 6-2 SCAC) improved to eight straight victories by winning the turnover battle—forcing 23 from the Pirates (5-12, 1-7 SCAC) while giving away just 12 possessions—and by pinning their host to just 31.4 percent shooting from the field.
Sophomore
Jacob Harvey (Huffman, Texas / Hargrave) posted double-digits in both halves of Saturday's matchup, with 10 of Trinity's 22 points in the first 20 minutes followed by 14 of 41 in the second for his fourth 20-plus point outing of the season.
Senior
AJ Clark (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) and sophomore
Jacob Millhouse (Plano, Texas / Independence) joined Harvey in double-digits with 14 and 10 points, respectively. This trio combined for a perfect 21-of-21 from the free throw line and 11-of-21 from the field Saturday night.
Less than 24 hours after his return to the rotation, senior
Ben Hanley (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) had a significant role in the Tigers' second-half takeover as all of his eight points—and two of his three assists—in the contest came in the latter 20 minutes.
Harvey and first-year
Zach Fenn (Covington, La. / Saint Paul's) kept the pace defensively with three steals apiece. Harvey marked all three of his takeaways in the first-half defensive struggle while Fenn notched two of his three in seven minutes played in the second half.
Coach Speak
"Southwestern had a great defensive gameplan and really executed it well," Head Coach
Jimmy Smith said. "We played with much more pace in the second half, and we were able to get some better opportunities offensively. Our defense was really solid and held us up until the offense started to click."
