SAN ANTONIO – The No. 1/2 Trinity women's basketball team opened up a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend at home with a 96-46 win over Centenary College.
The Tigers improved to 18-0 with the win, including a 9-0 mark in conference play. Centenary fell to 1-17 overall and 1-8 in league play with the loss. Trinity opened the game with 24 unanswered points and never looked back, while Centenary scored its first points of the game with 2:16 left in the first quarter. With a 30-5 lead after the opening quarter, the Tigers and Ladies settled in to a much slower pace in the second and led 44-16 at halftime.
The most productive quarter of the night came after the break as a 35-point outburst by Trinity put the game out of reach at 79-24 heading into the final frame. The Tigers held Centenary to just 27% shooting for the game and forced 42 turnovers. Trinity scored more than half of its points (53) off turnovers and held a 31-8 advantage in fastbreak scoring.
Ashlyn Milton (Amarillo, Texas / Amarillo) and
Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Ore. / Valley Catholic) led five Trinity scorers in double figures with 16 points each. Napoli connected on 6-of-10 from the field and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, while Milton also tied for the team lead with three three-pointers made.
Addie Putnam (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Xavier College Prep) hit 4-of-6 from the field on her way to an 11-point night, adding a team-best six assists to go with five steals. Putnam and Milton also tied for the team lead with five rebounds in the game.
Claire Hale (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis) chipped in with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting as well.
Maggie Shipley (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) came off the bench to add 12 points in just 13 minutes, while
Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) finished with nine points and a team-leading six steals.
