GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Tiger women's soccer team posted its fourth consecutive shutout to open up a weekend on the road in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday night, defeating Southwestern University 4-0.
Trinity improved its record to 6-4-2 this season and is now 3-0-0 with three straight shutouts to start the conference portion of the schedule. Southwestern falls to 4-7-2 overall and 1-1-1 in SCAC with the loss.
The Tigers had just six total shots in the first half of play, but limited the Pirates to just one attempt over the first 45 minutes of action. Trinity had two shots on goal during the period, not including a shot off the crossbar by
Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) in the 36th minute.
Abby Schneider (Albuquerque, N.M. / Bosque School) had a shot with less than three minutes until halftime that was saved to keep it a scoreless tie at the break. Both Tigers would make noise in the second half, though.
Khan got Trinity on the board with the eventual game-winner at the 51-minute mark, scoring her first game-winner and her third overall goal of the season. Khan also had a hand in the second goal in the 75th minute as she banged another shot off the crossbar.
Emily Hayes (Allen, Texas / Allen) got the rebound and had a shot of her own, but she wound up with the assist as Schneider finished off the sequence with her team-leading fifth goal of the year.
Less than five minutes later,
Clara Richards (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville South) made it 3-nil Trinity with her first collegiate goal in the 80th minute. Just over three minutes later, Richards picked up her first collegiate assist as well, feeding
Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) for the game's final score.
After just six attempts in the first half, Trinity's offense got going in a big way with 16 more shots to score the four goals. Southwestern also had three shots in the second half, but none were on target.
Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) recorded her third shutout of the season with 90 minutes in net as well.
