No. 11 Tiger Volleyball Splits Matches In Kerrville

KERRVILLE- No. 11 Tiger Volleyball splits their matches in Kerrville after dropping a match to Colorado College and then sweeping Schreiner.

Game One: Trinity 0, Colorado 3

This 1 vs 3 ranked match-up would be neck and neck the whole way, with neither team wanting to give the edge. Senior Maddie Fate (Croton on Hudson, New York / Croton Harmon) would pick up the first kill for the Tigers in this match. Colorado and Tigers would fight for the lead and would go all the way to 18-18. That is when Colorado had three points in a row to give them some cushion. Colorado would grow their lead to 4 and have a set point. The Tigers would fight and tie the game at 24 all. Just then, Brette Thornton (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall) would slam a ball to give the Tigers the lead. However, Colorado would go on a 3-1 run and take the set 26-28.

The second set would be more of the same. The Tigers would grab a lead and Colorado would tie it. Colorado would grab a lead and the Tigers would tie it up. Round and round they would go. Colorado would get a 7-point lead late in the set. The Tigers would try to come back but the lead was too big and Colorado would take the set 23-25.

Colorado would win the third set quickly. Colorado would jump out to a 4-9 lead early. The Tigers would bring the score to within one but Colorado would take advantage of the already down Tigers with a seven-point run. Colorado would take the 16-25 and win the match.

Senior Mackenzie Logan (Calgary, Canada / Bishop Carroll) would lead the Tigers with 10 kills and Nadia Kern (El Paso, Texas / Montwood) collected 15 digs.

Game Two: Trinity 3, Schreiner 0

The Tigers took that loss personally and were locked in to play host Schreiner. Logan would get the Tiger offense started with a kill. Schreiner had been competitive recently, but the Tigers did not bat an eye. The Tigers would start a trend of scoring two points and then Schreiner would score a point. The Tigers made their best move when fifth-year setter Marisa Amarino (Calabasas, California / Notre Dame Prep) and sophomore setter Jozie Dhayer (Houston, Texas / Summer Creek) started really commanding the offense. Dhayer and Amarino would give the ball to six different Tigers to collect a total of 11 kills. To round off the set, Amario would send a back set to Connelley McWilliams (Austin, Texas / St. Michael's) who would send a deep cross into the corner for the Tigers to take the set 25-22.

For set two, it was the striped big cat that would rise to the occasion. The Tigers came out and got an 8-4 lead. Then, the Tigers would sub in Jenna Rodriguez (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian) to step behind the service line. The Tigers would go on a giant 8-point run capped off by a Thornton and Courtney Pope (New Braunfels, Texas / Canyon) block that sent the ball back to where it came from. Schreiner got a kill but then the Tigers were back on the attack with another kill from the lightning bolt herself, Brette Thornton. It would then be a coveted set from Dhayer to the hard-swinging Mackenzie Logan, whose hit would literally and figuratively bring the Schreiner defense to its knees. The Tigers would take the set 25-14.

The third set came, and then it went. The Tigers pounced to go up 11-2. That big lead is just what the Tigers needed to get ready to start the bus. Schreiner and the Tigers would trade points for a bit but the Tigers had already scored 20 points to Schreiner's 6. A kill by Carley Broekhuizen (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) would bring the score to 23-10. Schreiner would score three points but the first-year was ready to end the match. McWilliams would slam two balls right on the line to give the Tigers the set 25-13.

Logan would lead the Tigers in kills again with 14 and sophomore Reagan Whatley (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands) would lead the Tigers defensively with 15 digs.
