Tiger Women's Soccer Topples Dallas, Advances To Championship Match

Story Links

HOUSTON - Trinity University Women's Soccer advanced to the championship game of the SCAC tournament with a 2-0 victory over the University of Dallas.

The Rundown

The semifinal match took on a different feel, with both teams coming out with tons of rejuvenated energy for the conference tournament. The Tiger offense was shooting early and often against the Crusader goalkeeper. The Tigers had six shots in the first 25 minutes, five of which were on goal. It wasn't until the twenty-sixth minute that Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, New Mexico / Hope Christian) dribbled through the defense and sent a crossing pass onto the far post for Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) to leap over the back of a defender and head the ball into the back of the net past the outreached arms of the keeper to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead. The Tiger defense was stout as well, not allowing a shot in the first half of play. The Tigers would ultimately take 10 shots in the first half and take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

The second half of play was not ready for the Tiger offense. Just six minutes into the back end of the match, senior Emma Everts (Fort Worth, Texas / Ponderosa) took the ankles of her defender and reared back to send a rocket shot to the bottom right corner of the goal. The Crusader keeper tried to make a play, but the shot by Everts was lightning quick. The Tigers would go up 2-0. At that point, it was time for SCAC Defensive Player of the Year Bailey Meyer (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) to get her defense to be an iron curtain. The Tiger defense did not allow a shot on goal until late in the match when a Crusader forward tried to take a deep shot from beyond the box, but goalkeeper Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) was quick on her feet and saved the lone shot on goal that the Crusaders took. With the win, Lewis brings her season record to 9-3-1 for the season and 1-0 in the tournament.

Up Next - SCAC Championship
