No. 22 Tiger Men's Basketball Hosts Conference Opponents In Calgaard

No. 22 Tiger Men's Basketball host their first conference games in Calgaard Gym when they take on Austin College and the University of Dallas.

The Tigers (7-0, 2-0 SCAC) picked up two conference wins with victories over Southwestern and Texas Lutheran. The Tigers were led by the 210 natives in freshman Christian Green (San Antonio, Texas / Veterans Memorial) and senior Tanner Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis). With these two at the helm, the Tigers secured both games by double-digits.

D3hoops.com Rankings

The Tigers have cracked the D3hoops.com Top 25 rankings in the 22nd spot. This week, John Carroll now occupies the top spot and Calvin jumps in at the second spot. St. Thomas is the only other SCAC team to receive votes.

SCAC Player of the Week - Christian Green

For the first time this season and in his career, Christian Green has been selected as the SCAC Player of the Week.

From the SCAC Press Release:

Green led the charge for the Tigers last week, averaging 22.0 points, 2.3 assists, 12.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. He led the Tigers to a perfect 3-0 record, including a pair of road SCAC wins to open up league play. Green recorded two double-doubles, 20 points and 15 rebounds against Mary Hardin-Baylor, and 24 points and 12 rebounds against Southwestern in his conference debut last Friday. He scored in double-figures in all three games, including three consecutive 20-plus point efforts ending the weekend with 22 points against Texas Lutheran. Green connected on 57.9 percent from the charity stripe, knocking down 11-of-19 trips to the line and 100 percent from three in his single attempt beyond the arc.

Preview - Conference, but at Home

The Tigers will face off against Austin College on Friday, December 15th at 5:30 PM, and then play against the University of Dallas on Saturday, December 16th at 4:00 PM.

On the Austin College Roos: The Roos are 5-4 (1-1 SCAC) this season up to this point. The Roos picked up their conference win against Centenary but were then defeated by St. Thomas in their most recent game. The Roos are a one-man show right now, as sophomore guard Kidus Getenet is averaging 16 points per game and is the only Roo that is averaging double-digit scoring. Getenet is a threat from behind the arc as he sports a 43 shooting percentage from deep. Look for the Tigers to key in on him to stop the Roo offense. All time, the Tigers are 29-6 against the Roos and only have one loss at home.

On the Dallas Crusaders: The Crusaders are 3-6 (1-1 SCAC) this season. The Crusaders had a rough month of November, going 2-5 and losing five games in a row during the month. The Crusaders opened conference play with a big win over St. Thomas but then they were defeated by Centenary. However, the Crusaders can light it up offensively, with four players with 10 or more points per game this season. The Crusaders are shooting a staggering 44 percent from the field so far this season. The Tiger bench will need to key in on freshman Kelton Coleman. Coleman, off the bench, is averaging 14.7 points per game this season and is shooting 45 percent from the field. All time, the Tigers are 33-10 against the Crusaders.

Key To The Game

Second Chance Buckets: In the first two conference games, the Tigers put in a combined 24 points one second chance opportunities. That is more than half of the opportunities put back in. If the Tigers can secure more offensive boards, it will allow them to put in second chance buckets from high percentage shots close to the basket.

Looking Ahead - Leslie Robinson Classic

The Tigers will host the Leslie Robinson Classic on December 20th and 21st. The Tigers will play against Washington and Lee, as well as the University of Chicago.
