#22 Trinity Wraps Home Tournament With Convincing Win

SAN ANTONIO – The 22nd-ranked Tiger men's basketball team closed out the Leslie Robinson Holiday Classic with an 82-63 win over the University of Chicago on Thursday night.

Trinity remained undefeated at 11-0 this season, while Chicago dropped to 8-3 overall as the Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak in the series with the Maroons. Trinity's 11-game winning streak is the program's longest since winning 12 consecutive games in 2011-12. The 11-0 start to the season is also the best since at least 1991-92.

The Tigers shot better than 48% from the field in the game and were even better from beyond the arc, hitting 7-of-13 (53.8%) from three-point range. Trinity's defense also held the Maroons to less than 34% shooting in the game and forced the visitors to commit 17 turnovers that led to 32 Tiger points.

Leading the charge for the Tigers was Jacob Millhouse (Plano, Texas / Independence), who poured in a career-high 17 points in just 21 minutes of action. He hit 6-of-8 from the field and went 2-for-3 from three-point range, adding two rebounds and two assists.

Christian Green (San Antonio, Texas / Veterans Memorial) and Tanner Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis) scored 13 points each and were the only other Trinity players in double figures. Green also led the team with four assists and grabbed five rebounds, while Brown had four boards and a pair of helpers.

Abdullah Roberts (Houston, Texas / HCYA) scored eight points off the bench, while Dean Balo (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) chipped in with seven of his own. Braxton Barry (Houston, Texas / Westbury Christian) pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

The Rundown
Trinity had its foot on the pedal from the jump, sprinting to a 17-2 lead over the first five-plus minutes of the first period. Chicago settled in a bit after that and used some long-range shooting to cut the lead back to eight over the next couple of minutes, but the Tigers answered with seven straight to take the lead back to 15 points at 26-11.

The Tigers continued to pour it on and took the lead as high as 22 points (39-17) with just over five minutes left in the first half. The margin was still 20 with less than three minutes left when Chicago tried to steal some momentum heading into the locker room. The Maroons hit back-to-back three-pointers and scored a pair of free throws to make it a 12-point game, but Trinity still took a 46-32 lead into the break.

Any momentum for the visitors late in the first half disappeared quickly as Trinity pounced on Chicago early in the second half and essentially put the game away. The Tigers scored 16 of the first 18 points of the period over a stretch of six minutes and took the lead up to 28 points (62-34). Millhouse and Green combined for nine of Trinity's points during the run, which got started with a three-pointer by Jacob Harvey (Huffman, Texas / Hargrave). The lead grew as high as 31 moments later and Chicago never recovered.

Coach Speak
"To be 11-0 at this point in the year is something that the guys should be really proud of," said Head Coach Jimmy Smith. "We have played a really tough schedule with more tough games ahead. We are all excited to have a few days off to spend with our families before heading out to Vegas!"

Up Next
Trinity will take a short break for Christmas and then return to action for the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas in one week. Trinity will then face off against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (CA) on Friday, December 29, at 4:00 p.m. (PT).
