Preview - Vegas, Baby
The Tigers will take on Clark University on Thursday, December 28th at 6:00 PM (PT), and then they will face off against Pomona-Pitzer on Friday, December 29th at 4:00 PM (PT).
On the Clark Cougars: The Cougars are 8-1 this season. The Cougars dropped their only game this season against Tufts by a score of 71-75. Other than that, the Cougars have been consistent offensively, scoring 90 points in three separate games. The Cougars are led by two guards and a forward who are each averaging over 16 points per game this season. The Cougars are shooting nearly 50 percent from the field this season and are 37 percent from three-point land. The Cougars will look to those three players to carry their team to victory. All time, the Tigers are 1-0 against the Cougars in their lone matchup in the 2000-2001 season.
On the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens: The Sagehens are 9-0 so far in the 2023-24 season. The Sagehens opened the season with a win against another Texas team when they defeated East Texas Baptist 75-59. Six of the nine Sagehen wins have been by 10 or more points. The Sagehens are led by junior guard Joe Cookson who is averaging 23.9 points per game, good enough for ninth in the country. The Tigers are 2-5 all time against the Sagehens, with their most recent matchup being a 59-63 loss in the 2014-2015 season.
Key to the Game
Big Scorers: This will not be the first time that the Tigers have faced a top-ten scorer in the country. The last time the Tigers played against a big scorer, he was held to just five points on limited shooting attempts. Look for the Tigers to have a similar game plan to slow down the leading scorers from Clark and Pomona-Pitzer.
Looking Ahead - Calgaard Revenge Match
The Tigers will have a rematch of the 2023 SCAC Championship as they take on the Schreiner Mountaineers on Tuesday, November 2nd.
