LAS VEGAS - No. 22 Tiger Men's Basketball closes out the D3Hoops Classic with a win over No. 21 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
The Tigers (13-0) continue their undefeated season and shot the lights out of the gym. The Tigers would shoot 54 percent from the field and 64 percent from deep. The Tigers also set a new season high with 17 three-pointers made, the previous high being 11. The Tigers were led by junior
Jacob Harvey (Huffman, Texas / Hargrave) who set a new career-high with 33 points on 11-17 shooting. Along with that, Harvey tied the all-time record for Trinity for three-pointers made in a game, a record held since 1996.
Christian Green (San Antonio, Texas / Veterans Memorial) would tack on a double-double to his excellent freshman season by collecting 13 points and 10 assists.
The Rundown
The Tigers got their night started with a three-point bomb by
Jacob Harvey off of a wicked pass by
Tanner Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis). The Tigers would take their very first lead of the game with another three-pointer by Harvey, making it 6-4 early in the game. Offensively, it was a true call and response. If the Tigers made a bucket, the Sagehens would respond. If the Tigers made a three, the Sagehens would make one of their own. This would continue throughout the entire first half but a late 10-3 run by the Tigers would send them into the half with a 38-34 lead.
The Tigers would start the second half just like the first, with Harvey continuing his three-point barrage. The Sagehens would start to close the gap but it would be
Tanner Brown to hit a three and start a run that would start an 8-point run, capped off by a three-pointer from
Dean Balo (Dallas, Texas / JJ Peace), that would grow the Tiger lead to double digits. The Tigers would then explode in the middle of the second half with a 13-8 run that would again up the lead to 71-53. With two minutes left, Harvey and Balo would hit consecutive threes to put the Tigers up 20 and bring more energy to this Tiger squad. Brown would take a slow dribble to the top of the key and drain a step back three-pointer to put a dagger in the game with 50 seconds left. The Tigers would close the game out on a 9-4 run and take the win 83-62.
