Tiger Softball Drops Road Double-Up with LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas –Trinity University Softball fell at LeTourneau University Sunday afternoon in its fourth road doubleheader to open the 2023 campaign, 9-7 in game one and 4-0 to end the afternoon.

Junior shortstop Marina Delaluna (Concord, Calif. / Concord) and first-year right fielder Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) each collected three hits on the day—including a double for each—and three of the Tigers' six RBI from the first game.

Trinity put up a six-run second inning early on—which included Lee's two-RBI double—as six hits were tallied by six different Tigers. First-year Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Thousand Oaks), the first game's starting pitcher, came in to run for sophomore designated player Lanie Smith (Foxfield, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) to collect a stolen base and finish the scoring on a base hit down the rightfield line by sophomore catcher Abigail Miller (Winnetka, Calif. / El Camino Real).

Through five innings, game-two senior starter Emery Boettcher (Fredericksburg, Texas / Fredericksburg) allowed just one earned run on seven scattered hits before getting charged for the Yellowjackets' two runs in the sixth.

Trinity Softball faces one more road doubleheader Saturday at No. 18 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The 2023 season-opener, and first contest for the Tigers' newly renovated venue, will be Sunday, February 26 in a doubleheader with No. 20 Babson College (MA).
