RICHARDSON, Texas – No. 13 Trinity University Men's Tennis collected an 8-1 victory over University of Texas – Dallas today in Richardson.
The Tigers (4-2) swept doubles in lineup order, starting with a pair of 8-2 wins from senior
Alessio Azzalini (Rome, Italy / Istituto Visconti) and first-year
Rafa Candelas-Ruiz (Zacatecas, Mexico / American [ESP])) in line one and senior
Hao Nguyen (Sugar Land, Texas / Strake Jesuit) and sophomore
Eric Liao (Taipei, Taiwan / Boca Prep [FL]) in line two.
Juniors
Rob Chang (Aeia, Hawaii / 'Iolani School) and
Dalton Locke (Humble, Texas / Kingwood) wrapped up the doubles sweep from the third line with their 8-4 win.
Azzalini lit up the scoreboard first for the Tigers with a straight set 6-1, 6-3 line one win, followed by Liao, 6-2, 6-2, in line two. Sophomore
Connor Whittington (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Lake Oswego) followed suit with his 6-3, 6-0 victory, securing the win for the team. Candelas-Ruiz posted the last straight sets for Trinity with his 6-4, 6-0 win from line five.
Locke was the fifth singles match to finish for the Tigers in his third set 10-8 victory, giving the Tigers their final team point for the day. First-year
Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) came back with a 6-2 second set win after dropping the first, but was edged out 9-11 in the third set to give the Comets their only win on the day.

No. 13 Trinity Men's Tennis will head to Abilene on Saturday to face Hardin-Simmons University for another NCAA III matchup. The following weekend, March 10-11, the Tigers will travel to California to play in the Stag-Hen Invitational hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
