WHITNEY, Texas – No. 19/21 Trinity University Men's Golf trails the host RV/No. 35 University of Dallas by four shots after Monday's first round of The Whitney at the White Bluff Golf Resort.
Sophomore
Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) paced the field by four strokes as the lone player to finish under par Monday with a 71 on the 6,714-yard, par-72 layout. After stumbling with a bogey from his second-tee shotgun start, Mason posted a round-high five birdies and seven pars through the par-four 14
th and finished the day two-under on par-fives.
Senior
Daniel Nunez (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) checked in tied for second overall with a 75 (+4). Nunez also found success on par-fives as he matched Mason's birdies on the seventh and 11
th pins, adding a third on the par-four 12
th.
First-year
Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) landed in a six-way tie for 15
th on the leaderboard with an 83, though the Tiger rookie is tied with Nunez for fourth with three birds on the day.
The first edition of The Whitney concludes for No. 19/21 Trinity Men's Golf with the event's second round Tuesday.
