No. 16 Women’s Tennis Wins Final Regular Season Match Over Schreiner

The Tigers swept the Mountaineers in their final match before the conference tournament, going 5-0 in league play.

SAN ANTONIO  – No. 16 Trinity University Women's Tennis defeated Schreiner University in their final match of the regular season and maintained a perfect record in conference play this spring.
 
The Tigers (14-4; 5-0 SCAC) started their morning with a shutout win from the regular line one pairing of sophomores Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain).
 
Sophomore Brooke Belitz (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Notre Dame Prep) and junior Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandergrift) followed with an 8-1 victory from line two to secure the doubles win. Junior Ella Cummings (Albuquerque, N.M. / Sandia) partnered with sophomore Trinity Hatchett (Pearland, Texas / Dawson) in line three to earn Trinity's third doubles point with a mark of 8-6.
 
Hatchett and Constanza Gomez (San Jose, Costa Rica / Blue Valley School) both posted shutouts in singles from lines four and five, respectively.
 
Junior Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Colleyville) made an appearance in line one of singles play and marked a 6-2, 6-1 score to keep the points rolling for Trinity.
 
Cummings clinched the match for the Tigers in line three with her 6-0, 6-2 win, while the normal doubles pairing of Hughes and Belitz posted identical straight-set victories – 6-1, 6-1 – from lines two and six with Belitz finishing out the sweep.
 
Up Next
No. 16 Trinity Women's Tennis will head to Georgetown, Texas, next weekend for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. The Tournament runs from April 28-30 and is hosted by Southwestern University.
