SAN ANTONIO - No. 14 Tiger Men's Soccer put on a spectacular performance in their 6-1 victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday night.
Â
The Tigers (5-0-2) were stellar in the first half. The Tigers capitalized on an early Crusader foul when a beautiful free kick by
Jack Eubank (Raleigh, North Carolina / Needham Broughton) found the head of
JonConnor Rule (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) to open up the scoring and put the Tigers ahead 1-0, this marked Rule's first goal of the season. The Tigers would continue scoring in the first half when a deflected shot from
Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch) was rebounded to
Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) for the Tigers second goal of the night. You thought the Tigers were done scoring? Think again. Just when
Chen Adjei (Euless, Texas / Trinity) got the ball at the top of the box, he showed off some fancy dribbling skills to put his defender on skates and then put the ball in the back of the Crusader net to bring the Tiger lead to 3-0. And the Tigers would continue to pour it on with four minutes left in the first half when Rule hit his second goal of the night off of a great right foot, tying his career highs for goals in a match.Â
Â
Just because the second half started, doesn't mean the Tigers stop scoring. Just 12 minutes into the second half, Adjei found himself in the Crusader box once again. He put a fabulous pass through multiple defenders to find
Zach Anderson (Davis, California / Davis) who put the ball in the top right corner of the goal. The Crusaders slowed down the Tiger offense for a while, but could not stop it. In the final five minutes of the match, junior
Will Powell (Bexley, Kent / Beth Grammar School) took the ball all the from half field and fired a rocket to the back of the net, stretching the Tiger lead to 6-1.Â
Â
As the announcer counted down the final ten seconds and the buzzer sounded, it was clear that the Tigers were the better team tonight. The Tigers were clicking on all cylinders tonight. The Tigers torched the Crusaders in shots 20-5, with 12 of the Tiger shots being on goal. The Tigers shot at a .750 clip.Â
