Tiger Women's Soccer Gears Up to Close Out Non-Conference Schedule

Tiger Women's Soccer takes on one last opponent before they get their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) competition underway.

During last week's competition, the Tigers saw a tie against the Tornadoes of Concordia University (TX) and a loss to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Tigers and Tornadoes traded first-half goals. Then the Tigers took the lead early in the second half, but the Tornadoes tied up the game with 23 minutes left to play and the game would end in a 2-2 draw. In the UMHB match, it was a defensive battle, with both teams taking less than 10 shots on goal. UMHB took an early 1-0 lead off of a ricochet ball, and that goal would be the deciding factor as the Tigers took the 1-0 loss.

The Tigers still put up offensive numbers though. During the week of competition, the Tigers saw first-year Madisyn Barganski (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff) score her first career goal and Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) score her first goal of the season. Freshman Malea Cesar (Portland, Oregon / Sunset) also nabbed her first assist of the young season.

Weekend Preview: Non-Conference Closeout

The Tigers will match up this weekend against a conference opponent in Texas Lutheran in a non-conference match. The Tigers will match up against the Bulldogs at Paul McGinlay Field at 12:00 PM on Sunday, October 1st.

On the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs: The Bulldogs hold a 3-2-3 record in 2023. The Bulldogs won their opening three games, but have dropped two of their last three matches. The Bulldogs only have one shutout in the young season, so the Tiger offense will be looking to score early and often. The Tiger defense will look to stop Alyssa Simien, who leads the Bulldogs with 9 goals and has three 2-goal outings. The Tigers hold a 25-0 record against the Bulldogs since 2009 and have only allowed two goals in their 25 matchups. The Tigers took the most recent clash between the two squads by a score of 4-0.

Looking Ahead - Time for SCAC Play

After the Tigers finish this matchup, they will begin conference play. The Tigers open up their 2023 crusade against the University of Dallas on Friday, October 6th, and Sunday, October 8th against Austin College.
