Preview - SCAC Revenge Games
Â
The Tigers will open up 2024 against Schreiner on Tuesday, January 2nd at 5:30 PM and then head to Colorado College to play on Friday, January 5th at 5:30 PM (MT). The Tigers have dropped both of their most recent games against these two squads, the most notable being the Tigers' 67-69 loss to Schreiner in the 2023 SCAC Championship game.
Â
On the Schreiner Mountaineers: The Mountaineers are 9-5 (4-0 SCAC) this season. The Mountaineers were on a 6-game winning streak before taking an 84-70 loss to Hardin-Simmons on December 21st. The Mountaineers are led by junior center Kamden Ross. Ross is averaging 16.9 points per game this season on 61 percent shooting from the field. Ross is one of four Mountaineers that is averaging double-digit points per game this season. The Mountaineers are heavily reliant on their starting lineup and their bench does not offer much support offensively. All time, the Tigers are 20-14 against the Mountaineers.
Â
On the Colorado Tigers: Colorado is 6-5 (2-2 SCAC) this season. Colorado has struggled to put up big numbers offensively this season. In their 11 total games, Colorado has only scored 80 or more points in three of those match ups. Colorado has dropped their most recent game against Centenary 77-71. Colorado is led by sophomore guard Dinari Boykin. Boykin is averaging 12 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game so far this season. Colorado has good size but has struggled to find a consistent starting five as 11 of 17 players have started at least one game this season. The Tigers are 26-11 all time against Colorado and are 8-9 when playing at Colorado.
Â
Keys To The GameÂ
Â
Get To The Bench: The Mountaineers have a very strong starting five that sees a lot of minutes. However, the Schreiner bench is only putting in 21 of the Mountaineers' 84 points per game this season. In only two games this season has the Schreiner bench scored more than 30 points in a game. Look for the Tigers to go at the Mountaineer starters to get them in foul trouble so they force the bench to beat them.Â
Â
Looking Ahead - Home, Sweet Home
Â
The Tigers will continue SCAC play as they take on the University of St. Thomas on Friday, January 12th in Calgaard Gymnasium.
