Preview - SCAC Round Two
Â
The Tigers will start their second round of conference play against Southwestern on Friday, January 19th starting at 5:30 PM, and then the Tigers will tip-off against Texas Lutheran on Saturday, January 20th at 4:00 PM.Â
Â
On the Southwestern Pirates: The Pirates are 1-15 (0-7 SCAC) through the first round of conference play. It has been a struggle for the Pirates this season. The Pirates picked up their only win of the season with a 77-75 win over Luther College in overtime. The Pirates have had four games that they have lost by less than two points this season. Last time out, the Tigers defeated the Pirates in Georgetown 87-75. However, this time, the Tigers will look to slow down Luke Hatcher. Hatcher gashed the Tigers for 21 points in their previous meeting. All-time, the Tigers are now 49-20 against the Pirates.Â
Â
On the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs: The Bulldogs are 3-13 (2-5 SCAC) so far this season. The Bulldogs have gained some momentum, however, winning two of their last four games. In their matchup earlier this season, the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 70-60. The Tigers will face a new starting lineup this go around as the Bulldogs have replaced two of their five starters. The Bulldogs have been spotty this season so the Tigers will look to slow down the new lineup of the Bulldogs and take a win to gain more traction in the SCAC race for first place. Since 2009, the Tigers are 15-10 against the Bulldogs and are on a three-game winning streak.Â
Â
Keys To The Game
Â
Keep Shooting: Last time out, the Tigers shot a near-season-low 17.4 percent from three-point against the Bulldogs. Since then, the Tigers have shot 41.8 percent (85-203). The Tigers rely on the three-ball for much of their offense and will look to improve their shooting for this match up to stretch their lead and go for a bigger win.Â
Â
Defense *Clap Clap* Defense: The Pirates are averaging 20 turnovers per game during conference games this season and are holding a -3.50 turnover margin. The Tigers, however, are forcing at least 18 turnovers per game and are second in the conference in scoring defense. Look for the Tigers to flip from zone to man to mix up looks to confuse the Pirate offense and hold them to limited scoring.Â
