The Rundown
Trinity was dominant from the start, scoring 12 of the game's first 14 points to snag a double-digit lead in less than five minutes. Minter and Timmons combined for 10 of the 12 Tiger points and the duo wound up scoring 13 of Trinity's 20 points in the opening quarter. The lead grew as large as 16 points during an 8-0 surge by the Tigers late in the period, and Trinity led 20-7 after the first.
The lead swelled past 20 points early in the second quarter as Trinity opened the period with nine unanswered points. Napoli led the charge for the Tigers, scoring nine of her 11 first-half points in the period. Following the initial outburst, Southwestern was able to keep pace with Trinity the rest of the half. The Tigers still led 40-19 with just under two minutes remaining in the second quarter when the Pirates scored seven of the next nine points to trim the lead to 16, but King snuck in for an easy layup in the final seconds to make it a 44-26 halftime lead.
Trinity won its third straight quarter to open the second half, though Southwestern kept things close early on. The lead was just 16 points less than two minutes into the quarter when the Tigers pieced together a 9-2 run to make it a 58-35 lead with less than four minutes to go. The lead rose as high as 25 points late in the quarter and Trinity led 65-41 heading into the final period.
Southwestern took advantage of a scoring drought by Trinity in the midst of the fourth quarter, scoring 10 unanswered points to knock the lead down to 66-51. The Tiger defense buckled down after that spurt, though, and held the visitors scoreless over the next three minutes to seal the win.
Coach Speak
"I've tried it a few times, but when I sing
Afternoon Delight by myself it just doesn't hit," began Head Coach
Cameron Hill. "The last few games, key members of the Channel Four News Team have been missing. Everyone knows how hard it is to be alone in a glass case of emotion, but tonight we were one – all four pillars of a great news production were accounted for, and I think the results speak for themselves. You stay classy San Antonio. Onward!"
