12th-Ranked Trinity Men's Hoops Demolishes Dallas on Saturday

IRVING, Texas – The 12th-ranked Trinity men's basketball team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road weekend with a resounding 97-66 win over the University of Dallas on Saturday evening.

The Tigers (20-1, 11-1 SCAC) reached 20 wins for the third straight season under Head Coach Jimmy Smith, while also finishing off a regular season series sweep over the Crusaders (8-12, 5-7 SCAC). Trinity shot 45% from three-point range and made 18-of-22 (81.8%) from the foul line in the game, while limiting Dallas to less than 40% shooting overall and just 6-for-26 (23.1%) from beyond the arc.

Both Christian Green (San Antonio, Texas / Veterans Memorial) and Ty Williams (Pearland, Texas / Pearland) recorded double-doubles to lead Trinity to the victory. Green led the team with 23 points and 14 boards, hitting 8-of-14 from the floor and 7-of-9 at the foul line. Williams set new career-highs with 21 points and 11 rebounds in just 19 minutes off the bench for his first career double-double, knocking down 8-of-10 from the field and all five of his foul shots.

Jacob Harvey (Huffman, Texas / Hargrave) and Tanner Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis) chipped in with nine points each, while Jacob Millhouse (Plano, Texas / Independence) dished out a team-best four assists. Braxton Barry (Houston, Texas / Westbury Christian) scored seven points and pulled down five rebounds, despite being limited to just 14 minutes due to foul trouble.

The Rundown
After Green scored the first points of the game for the Tigers, Dallas came back with five unanswered and maintained the lead for several minutes to start the first period. Trinity made its first big run with under 14 minutes left in the opening half, beginning a 13-0 run with a game-tying three-pointer from Dean Balo (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce). Williams added four points of his own during the stretch of less than three minutes that put the Tigers in front 26-16.

After Dallas slowed down Trinity temporarily by scoring six of the next eight points to bring the lead back to six, the Tigers finished off another quick 7-0 run with a three-pointer from Grayson Herr (Farmington, Conn. / Farmington) that made it a 38-24 game with 6:20 left until the break. The lead never dipped below 10 points the rest of the way and Green finished the half with a put-back dunk at the buzzer to give Trinity a 47-35 lead at halftime.

The second half began with both teams essentially trading baskets, though Trinity did get its lead up to as many as 17 in the opening minutes of the period. Dallas was able to whittle that lead down to just 10 (65-55) by the 11-minute mark, but the Tigers hit the throttle one more time to put the game out of reach for good. Green accounted for nine points during a 21-5 run for the Tigers that pushed the lead out to 86-60 lead with just over four minutes left. Trinity also allowed just 11 points over the final 11-plus minutes to cement the win on both ends of the court.

Coach Speak
"This is a really tough road trip so we couldn't be more excited to get two wins," said Coach Smith. "Rebounding was the emphasis for us and mand did the guys do a great job in that area. It will be great to get a couple days off to recover before another big week of games."

Up Next
Trinity will be back on the road in its next outing, though the Tigers get a break next weekend. Trinity will face off against Schreiner University at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6.
