Story Links

COLORADO SPRINGS - Trinity University Women's Basketball falls to Colorado College 49-63

The Tigers (10-5) drop their first conference game this season. The Tigers were led by senior Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) who had a near triple-double as she collected 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 steals. Junior Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Oregon / Valley Catholic) would be the only other Tiger in double-figure scoring with 11.

The Rundown

The first quarter was slow offensively for both squads, with the first bucket not getting put in until over a minute into the game when Colorado hit a jumper. The offensive struggle for the Tigers would continue until 5:46 when Maggie Robbins put in the first two points for the Tigers by sinking two free throws. The Tigers would not find a groove until two minutes later when back-to-back buckets by the Tigers gave them their first lead 6-4. Both Tiger teams would have their lowest-scoring quarters of the season as the first quarter came to an end with Colorado having a 9-10 lead.

The Tiger offense got an earlier start to the second quarter when Bailey Timmons (Argyle, Texas / Argyle) hit a jumper off an assist for Robbins. Colorado would grow their lead to nine in the second quarter but the Tigers would quickly close the gap back to four with two buckets in a row. Colorado outscored the Tigers 8-7 to finish the half with a 27-35 lead.
Colorado would hit the first basket of the second half to push their lead to double digits for the first time. The scoring would then halt for three minutes until three shots in a row hit the bottom of the net for the Tigers to bring the score to 34-37. Colorado would make their best move of the night when they closed the quarter with a 14-3 run to take a 37-51 lead into the final quarter of play.

The Tigers would have their second-best quarter of the night to close it out but could not cut the lead back to single digits and Colorado would take the win 49-63.

Coach Speak

"There's no place like home," spoke Head Coach Cameron Hill. "Just remember, it was a tornado that introduced us to Oz, the place you find things you've had all along!!! ONWARD!!!"

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will head back to Calgaard Gym to take on the University of St. Thomas on January 12th and Centenary College on January 13th.
