No. 24 Tiger Men's Soccer Takes On New SCAC Opponents McMurry and Concordia

No. 24 Trinity University Men's Soccer face a pair of former ASC opponents this weekend. 
 
The Tigers (6-0-2, 1-0 SCAC) continued their winning streak with a dominant 5-0 victory over Schreiner. Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) and Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch) both notched a brace in the match. With seven goals apiece, both men are tied for the conference lead in goals. Samuel Theiss (Boerne, Texas / Boerne) added two assists and Braden Shuey (Frisco, Texas / Wakeland) had a goal and an assist. Trinity ranks in the top 10 nationally in most offensive categories including assists per game (1st), corner kicks per game (2nd), points per game (3rd), shots per game (4th), total assists (5th), goal differential (5th), scoring offense (7th), and total points (9th).
 
SCAC Offensive Player of the Week - Adam Knutson
 
For the first time in his career, junior Adam Knutson has been selected as the SCAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Knutson registered a brace, including ringing home the game-winning goal in the Tigers' dominant 5-0 win over Schreiner to open up SCAC play last Saturday. Knutson, who is tied for the SCAC lead with seven goals, has scored in six of the Tigers' eight fixtures, including a streak of four straight matches to open the season. On the year, Knutson now has 15 total points to pace the SCAC.
 
United Soccer Coaches National Ranking - Tigers Jump to 24
 
In the national poll by the United Soccer Coaches, the Tigers are ranked 24th. This is the first time this season that Trinity has been placed into the national rankings. The University of Mary Washington is ranked first with Tufts in second. SCAC rival Colorado is ranked sixth and Southwestern is 18th. 
 
Preview - ASC to SCAC
 
The Tigers will start their weekend at home against McMurry on Friday, October 4th at 5:00 PM. Then, they will travel to Austin to play against Concordia on Sunday, October 6th at 5:00 PM.
 
On the McMurry Warhawks: McMurry has struggled this season, posting a record of 2-5-1. Despite their two victories against Lyon College and the University of Dallas, the Warhawks have experienced several significant losses, with five of their defeats coming by three goals or more. Most recently, they lost 6-1 to Concordia. Sophomore midfielder Nick Munoz leads the team with two goals. The last time these two teams faced each other was in 2006, when the Tigers defeated the Warhawks 7-1. Historically, the Tigers have a perfect record of 4-0 against McMurry.
 
On the Concordia Tornadoes: Concordia has a record of 4-1-3 so far in the 2024 season, featuring some strong performances, including two ties: 1-1 against UMHB and 3-3 against Christopher Newport. However, their only win came against Howard Payne, where they won 2-1; notably, Howard Payne was previously defeated 8-0 by the Tigers. Concordia has managed just one shutout this season. The offense is spearheaded by graduate student Theo Givens, who has five goals and four assists. Junior midfielder Gustavo Hernandez has also contributed with two goals and three assists. While the offense is performing well, Concordia's goalkeepers are allowing an average of 1.50 goals per game and have a save percentage of 0.714. In their last match in 2022, the Tigers shutout CTX with a 3-0 victory, bringing their all-time record against Concordia to 2-0.
