Box Score Sherman - The Trinity men's soccer team rounded off a weekend of traveling with a 3-0 win away at Austin College. Following Friday's win at University of Dallas, Trinity are now 8-0 in SCAC play, sitting atop of the league standings alongside Colorado College.
The Tigers (12-0-2) will be pleased with their defensive efforts across the weekend, recording two shutouts after conceding in three consecutive games leading up to this road trip. This game came as the 35 all-time meeting between the two sides, with Trinity now having an impressive 33-2 record against the Roos.
The Rundown
The battle commenced with intensity on a hot afternoon at Austin College. With head coach Paul Mcginlay back on the sideline, the extra hunger was apparent from the get-go and it took
Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) just 25 minutes to break the deadlock. Senior forward
Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch) played a looping ball over the opposition's back line where Knutson was ready to pounce. One preparation touch and a half volley into the bottom left corner gave Trinity's number two his 12th goal of the season and increased his tally as top goal scorer for the Tigers.
The Tigers weren't done quite yet though. 48 seconds was all it took before the scoreboard had to be updated once more. A dangerous looking free-kick curled into the Roos' box by
Louis Instrall (London, England / Hampton School) gave
JonConnor Rule (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) the chance to head home his second of the weekend and what better way to celebrate your birthday than with a goal! As the sun continued to beat onto the grass in Sherman, the Tigers made multiple substitutions allowing them to go into the break with a 2-0 lead.
In difficult conditions, Trinity continued battling in the second half as they looked to extend their lead and secure the points. Recording 14 shots after the half, the Tigers created a number of good chances in their pursuit of a third goal, with Knutson going closest as his curling effort hit the post, denying him his third goal of the weekend. Their relentless pressure paid off just two minutes prior to the final whistle as Trinity scored yet another set-piece goal with
Luke Chandler (Glasgow, Scotland / Balfron) scoring his third of the season with a back-post header from an
Alex Baltov (Shreveport, La. / Caddo Parish Magnet) corner.
