SAN ANTONIO – The 21st-ranked Trinity University volleyball team won 3-0 over both Randolph-Macon College (VA) and Concordia University (TX) to close its regular season home schedule on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers improved to 18-6 overall and 10-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the wins, which run Trinity's win streak to nine consecutive matches. Randolph-Macon fell to 10-12 this season, while Concordia dropped to 7-13 overall and 2-7 in conference. Trinity won 25-19, 25-23, and 25-19 over Concordia to close the day, while the early win over Randolph-Macon came with scores of 25-23, 25-14, and 25-16.
Seniors
Kathryn Detweiler (Goshen, Ind. / Goshen),
Maddie Fate (New York, N.Y. / Croton Harmon), and
Mackenzie Logan (Calgary, Canada / Bishop Carroll) were all honored after the Concordia match, which was the final regular season home match of their careers.
Logan led Trinity with 11 kills to start the day against RMC, while
Taylor Starr (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) added nine kills, and
Courtney Pope (New Braunfels, Texas / Canyon) finished with eight. Pope and Starr also contributed three blocks each and tied with Fate for the team lead.
Jenna Rodriguez (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian) and
Reagan Whatley (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands) led Trinity's defense with 10 digs each.
Jozie Dhayer (Houston, Texas / Summer Creek) led the team with 15 assists to edge out a 14-assist match for
Kendall DeRivel (Westlake Village, Calif. / Viewpoint). DeRivel also had a team-leading four service aces.
Fate finished with 10 kills and six blocks to lead Trinity in both categories against Concordia, while Logan added eight more kills to her day, and
Connelley McWilliams (Austin, Texas / St. Michael's) recorded seven kills. Fate also hit .667, while McWilliams hit .467 for the Tigers. Rodriguez once again led the way in digs, finishing with an even dozen against Concordia. DeRivel had a team-best 23 assists to go with eight digs, while Dhayer finished with 16 assists, seven digs, and a team-best two aces.
Trinity will wrap up the regular season with three more SCAC matches next weekend in Georgetown, Texas. The Tigers face the University of Dallas (TX) on Friday at 4:30 p.m., followed by Saturday matches against McMurry University (TX) and Centenary College (LA).
