San Antonio - The Trinity men's soccer team continued to build on their winning form with a 2-1 victory over Concordia on Sunday night.
The Tigers (8-0-2) are now on an eight game winning streak and sit atop the SCAC standings, alongside Colorado College, with a perfect 3-0 record in conference. This was just the third all-time meeting between the Tigers and the Tornado's, with this win extending Trinity's perfect record in the fixture.
The Rundown
After a positive start from Trinity, Concordia broke the deadlock against the run of play following up on a great save from Tiger goalkeeper
Omkar Satpathy (Pleasanton, California / Amador Valley) and making it a 1-0 game from the resulting rebound. Despite a number of good chances for Trinity, the game remained 1-0 at the half, with Trinity knowing they would have to produce a strong second half performance if they were to maintain their winning streak.
The Tigers came flying out of the traps in the second half and managed to get on level terms as
Cade Dougan (Austin, Texas St. Stephen's Episcopal) produced a fantastic free-kick delivery which was put across goal by
JonConnor Rule (San Antonio, Texas Johnson) for
Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) to head home, making the game 1-1 in the 57th minute. Just 55 seconds after the goal, Trinity came close to scoring again as
Louis Instrall (London, England / Hampton School) forced a goal-line clearance from the Tornados' defense.
The good guys continued to battle as they searched for their second goal and a potential winner. Their efforts were rewarded in the 83rd minute as Rules' long ball was flicked on by Knutson to find
Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch) who lifted the ball over the oncoming goalkeeper to put Trinity ahead. This is the eighth consecutive game that Cain has scored in and marks a career-high ninth goal of the season for the senior forward.
Trinity's ever-present defensive unit stayed resilient throughout the remaining seven minutes of the game, ensuring the three points came back to San Antonio as the game finished 2-1.
