SAN ANTONIO - The Trinity men's soccer team extended their unbeaten run to seventeen with a 7-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over University of the Ozarks (AR) on Friday evening.
The 13th-ranked ranked Tigers (14-0-3) were rampant throughout, scoring four in the first half and three in the second, while recording their 10th shutout of the season.
The Rundown
Trinity started the game on the front foot, dominating possession and creating a number of openings in the final third. It took them just nine minutes to break the deadlock, and with Trinity's first free kick of the game
Louis Instrall (London, England / Hampton School) stepped up and whipped a delicious ball onto the head of
Luke Mayfield (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce), who glanced the ball into the bottom right-hand corner. Instrall once again played a pivotal role in the second goal, as he capitalized on a poor touch from the opposition in the penalty area and calmly slotted the ball home into the bottom right-hand corner.
Trinity's intensity of play continued throughout the half, and with 16 minutes left
Alex Baltov (Shreveport, La. / Caddo Parish Magnet) whipped in a cross from the right hand side that
Samuel Theiss (Boerne, Texas / Boerne) did exceptionally well to keep alive at the front post, needing only a composed header from the captain
JonConnor Rule (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) to head home for Trinity's third. The half was capped off with five minutes remaining, as
Salvador O'Brien (London, England / King Alfred School) played a searching ball in behind that looked to be heading out of play, only for
Kassen Dilworth (Schertz, Texas / Clemens) to show his rapid pace and hook the ball to the front post for the oncoming
Samuel Theiss (Boerne, Texas / Boerne) to slot home beneath the sprawling keeper.
The Ozark Eagles came out flying into the second half, but the Tigers held strong and settled into the half. Trinity continued to probe the Eagles' goal, and it was only a matter of time until their fifth goal came. With 19 minutes left, the ball was thrown to the feet of
Joey Perryman Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound), who used his body well to muscle off the defender, glide into the box and drive the ball across the six yard box – only for the keeper to parry the ball to the feet of
Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch) who slotted it into the net for his 11th goal of the season. The charge continued for the remainder of the game, and just eight minutes after the fifth goal,
Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) picked up the ball just inside the opposition half, and drove towards goal, shimmying between two opposition midfielders and striking the ball from outside the box into the bottom left-hand corner for his 13th goal of the season. To cap off an excellent team performance,
Daniel Urquidi (Jacksonville Beach, Fla. / Reagan) picked up the ball on the edge of the box, drove past the opposition full back and cut the ball back for
Jason Sukow (Jacksonville Beach, Fla. / Reagan) to slot home in the 82nd minute.
