Preview - Emory Regional
The Tigers are heading to Atlanta, Georgia, to compete in a regional hosted by Emory University. Trinity enters the tournament as the second seed and will face seventh-seeded Southern Virginia on Thursday, November 21st, at 2:00 PM (ET). Emory holds the top seed in the regional, followed by Whitworth in third. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Transylvania round out the top five, while Berry and Covenant are seeded sixth and eighth.
On the Southern Virginia Knights: The Knights concluded the regular season with a strong 22-11 record, including a 15-3 mark in the USA South conference. Their season began on a rough note, with a 3-7 record in their first 10 games, but they rebounded impressively, finishing with an 8-2 run. Southern Virginia faced just one nationally ranked opponent during the season, Washington & Lee, and suffered a tough loss. In that match on September 7th, the Knights were swept with set scores of 25-7, 25-14, and 25-12.
Heading into the postseason, the Knights will lean on the standout outside hitters Sydney Bassett and Brookelyn Madland. Bassett has tallied an impressive 455 kills this season, placing her 13th nationally. The offense thrives on sophomore setter Ruby Blamires, who ranks 4th in the nation with 1,192 assists this season. On defense, junior libero Gracie Fulton anchors the back row with 669 digs, ranking 9th nationally.
This will mark the first-ever matchup between Southern Virginia and Trinity. The Tigers bring significant postseason experience, holding a 45-28 all-time record in the NCAA Playoffs, including a strong 15-4 mark in first-round matches.
Looking Ahead
With a win, the Tigers will play against the winner of Whitworth and Berry on November 22nd at 4:30 PM (ET).
