Trinity Women's Soccer Advances to SCAC Championship With 1-0 Victory Over Southwestern

Houston - The Trinity women's soccer team reached their 16th overall SCAC Tournament Final with a 1-0 win over Southwestern University in the conference semifinals. They will now look forward to a chance to win their 28th SCAC Championship on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers have won 12 consecutive games conceding just one goal in those games, with this being their 16th shutout of the season. With a move to the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) on the horizon, Trinity will hope to cap off an incredibly successful 32 years competing in the SCAC by winning another conference championship.

The Rundown

Trinity's pressure was there from the offset. Within the first five minutes the Tiger's had had a fierce strike on goal and dominated most of the possession. It was hardly a surprise then, to see their efforts being rewarded with an early goal from senior forward Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford). Initial pressure from Trinity's front three forced the ball back to the Southwestern goalkeeper only for Bosco to pounce onto a loose touch in the opposition's six yard box and slam home the first goal of the 2024 SCAC Tournament. Trinity did a great job at keeping their opposition at bay for the remainder of the first half and conceded just one shot in the first 45 minutes.

The second half saw a continuation of the first period's domination from the Tigers. A noteworthy effort came from Madisyn Bargasnki (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff) whose right footed volley crashed against the right goalpost, just inches away from doubling the Tiger lead. Nevertheless, the scoreline remained 1-0 to Trinity for the remainder of the second half with Trinity recording an impressive 21 shots - 11 of which were on target.

With yet another shutout, the Tigers kept their place in the nation's top 10 for goals against average, conceding just five goals this season. Trinity has given up just one goal in SCAC play this season and the defense was once again anchored by senior goalkeeper Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview), who made two saves to make sure that her team progressed to the championship game.
