The Rundown
The Tigers issues started early in the first half, trailing by over 20 points within eight minutes, while the Cowboys were hot from three-point range in the first period, going 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. Trinity went just 4-13 from the field in the opening stages, struggling to put any sort of offensive momentum together. Their opponents had no such struggles and after scoring five consecutive field goals without reply, Hardin Simmons lead 4-19, forcing the first timeout of the game from the tigers with 13:01 on the clock. Things went from bad to worse for Trinity after the timeout, with another three triples from HSU extending their lead to 7-30 with 11:10 left in the first half. The Tigers did put together a charge at the end of the half, with
Jacob Harvey scoring a trio of threes of his own in under two minutes, reducing the lead to 12 points at the half.
The Tigers came out firing in the second period with a difficult jumper from Green and Millhouse's first basket of the night driving the team forward. With 15 minutes on the clock, Trinity went on an 18-2 run, turning the game upside down and giving themselves the lead. Green really lead the team in this period, scoring 10 points with just one miss during his teams best run of the game.
With the clock ticking down the intensity increased, as each team traded baskets and neither being able to establish a strong lead. The score remained within four points for over seven minutes before a clutch three from Millhouse put his team up by seven, but the Cowboys refused to lay down and reduced the deficit to just two points with less than two minutes to go. Millhouse came up big once again, scoring eight consecutive points for the Tigers and putting the score to 74-67 with 53 seconds to go. From here
Carter Ruck (Southlake , Texas / Carroll) and Harvey made two clutch free-throws each to keep the lead at seven and deny any chance of a Cowboy comeback.
