MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Four Trinity University football players were named to the D3football.com All-Region 3 team for the 2024 season.
Among the four Tiger standouts are two repeat award-winners and two new honorees for the All-Region team. Senior kicker
Tyler Huettel (McKinney, Texas / McKinney) is a three-time All-Region performer and junior offensive lineman
Caleb Bayer (Grandview, Texas / Grandview) secures his second straight award, while fifth-year linebacker
Cade Rabson (The Woodlands, Texas / College Park) and senior defensive lineman
Jonathan Nwobodo (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) made it for the first time. Huettel and Rabson both secured First Team All-Region recognition, with Nwobodo earning a spot on the All-Region Second Team, and Bayer snagging Third Team All-Region accolades.
Huettel repeated as the Southern Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and was also named an All-American for the third time in his career. He earned First Team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association in 2024, following his Second Team All-America status for both the AFCA and D3football.com in 2023. The Associated Press also had him as a First Team All-American last year as well. This season, Huettel broke the school record for field goals in a season (18) and tied the Tiger record for field goals in a game (4). In addition to earning First Team All-Region honors last year at Trinity, Huettel was also a First Team All-Region punter at St. Olaf College (MN) in 2021. He also earned First Team All-America honors from D3football.com and the AP, as well as AFCA Second Team recognition in his one season with St. Olaf.
Rabson was one of the top linebackers in the nation in 2024, ranking eighth in Division III with 11.3 tackles per game. The First Team All-SAA player finished with 124 total tackles and tied for the team lead with 15.0 tackles for loss that included 3.5 sacks. Rabson had double-digit tackles in seven of the 11 games this season, including a career-best 17 tackles against Southwestern University (TX) and 15 tackles in the NCAA Playoff game against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX).
Nwobodo was on the First Team All-SAA defense alongside Rabson, finishing the year tied for third on the team with 41 tackles and tying Rabson for the team lead with 15.0 tackles for loss. Nwobodo led Trinity with 8.5 sacks and seven QB hurries during the year. He produced a career-best 3.0 sacks against Rhodes College (TN) during SAA play and finished with 1.5 sacks in the NCAA Playoff game against UMHB.
Bayer graded out as Trinity's top offensive lineman this season, allowing zero sacks and recording 32 pancake blocks. He earned his second straight spot on the All-SAA First Team in 2024 and was also an Honorable Mention All-SAA selection in 2022. Bayer was picked for the D3football.com All-Region Second Team last year.

Jerheme Urban, who wrapped up his 11th season in charge of the Tigers. Trinity finished the year with an 8-3 overall record that included a 6-1 mark in conference play to share the SAA Championship. The Tigers have won four straight SAA titles and have advanced to the NCAA Playoffs four consecutive seasons as well.
