Tiger Softball Splits Against No. 16 ETBU

SAN ANTONIO - Trinity University splits their double-header against 16th-ranked East Texas Baptist.

The Tigers (4-2) had sweet swings all afternoon, collecting 17 total hits and 13 RBIs. The hottest bat of the day was sophomore Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks). Arce would go 4-5 at the plate with 7 RBIs and two monster home runs. Arce would also get it done in the circle as well, throwing a complete game and fanning six. Freshman Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) would have a great day at the plate as well, going 4-7 with an RBI and a double.

Game One - Trinity 6, ETBU 11

The Tigers looked good early, putting up a goose egg in the first inning against the nationally-ranked opponent. As soon as the Tigers stepped into the box, the bats caught on fire. Hayden Del Toro (Cypress, Texas / Cy Woods) roped a ball up the middle to lead off the game and Jordyn Williams (Clayton, California / Clayton Valley Charter) brought her in with a clutch 2-out RBI. Trinity would score four runs total, three of them coming from an Arce BLAST that brought in three.

ETBU would answer back, scoring two of their own and then adding another in the third. However, Arce would tack on to the Tiger lead with a two-run slamajama to right center and it would be 6-4 in favor of the Tigers in maroon. Unfortunately, East Texas Baptist would take the lead back by putting four in the top of the fourth and again in the top of the sixth. The Tigers would fail to score again and they would drop the first game 6-11.

Game Two - Trinity 7, ETBU 6

Game number two would be a scare as ETBU put up a quick two runs with no response from Trinity. ETBU was looking like they would put up their third-straight no-hit inning until Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, California / Agoura) looped a ball just over the first baseman's head for the first hit of the game for TU. Trinity would settle in with a single from Boudreaux. Then, Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) laced a ball pull side to bring the first run of the game. Arce would then bring in another and it was a brand new ball game going into the fourth.

With their backs against the wall, ETBU would put one across the plate to regain the lead and they felt they were in the driver's seat but the Tigers had other plans. Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian) would hit an absolute screaming double to start the inning. The Tigers would move her over and Del Toro would hit a dribbler that would be mishandled by the ETBU third baseman and Watson would score to tie the game. East Texas Baptist would bring in a new pitcher but it did not matter because Boudreaux would slice a ball down the right field line and the Tigers would reclaim the lead. Just when the crowd thought it was over, Williams would smack a liner up the middle to score another and Trinity would be up 7-4 heading into the fifth.

With a lead, it was time for Arce to go to work. She would put up an instant zero but then would let in two in the sixth. Heading into the final inning, Arce was determined to bring home a win for the Tigers. Arce would blank ETBU in the seventh and the Tiger fans would be on their feet for this huge Trinity Softball "W".
