No. 6 Tiger Men's Basketball will hit the road back to Shreveport to compete in the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

The Tigers (23-2) split their final weekend of regular play with a loss to the University of St. Thomas and then picking up a bounce-back win over Centenary. Although the Tigers would shoot it well, St. Thomas would have an excellent second half to pick up a seven-point win. However, Trinity came back with a vengeance and scorched Centenary by 18 points. Jacob Harvey (Huffman, Texas / Hargrave) would go off for 32 points on 9-16 shooting. Harvey would also tie the all time Trinity record for threes made in a game for the second time this season. For both games, the Tigers shot the ball better than 40 percent from the field and should have a hot hand heading into the tournament.

Preview - SCAC Tourney

The Tigers will be the top-seeded team in the SCAC tournament hosted by Centenary College. With that, the Tigers will receive a first-round bye and play the winner of Colorado College versus the University of Dallas on Saturday, February 24th at noon.

Seeding:

1-Seed: Trinity
2-Seed: St. Thomas
3-Seed: Centenary
4-Seed: Colorado College
5-Seed: Dallas
6-Seed: Schreiner

Scouting the Competition: The Tigers have had little trouble with the SCAC this year, except St. Thomas. The Tigers have again and again used strong second halves to pull away from teams and secure multiple double-digit wins. Besides the two losses to St. Thomas, the Tigers have only had two other games within single digits. Those games were the 82-81 win against Schreiner and the 59-57 win over Colorado College. For most of the teams in the field, they are heavily reliant on a star to carry the bulk of the work. However, St. Thomas has found a way to defeat the Tigers through a large dose of threes and a good second half shooting percentage. All in all, the field is competitive and will depend on which team can find the hot hand early.

Key To The Game

Stay Hot: With the impressive shooting performance of the Tigers over the last two games, they are poised for a deep tournament run. Trinity will look to get Harvey, as well as Dean Balo (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) and Tanner Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis), the ball so they can put up plenty of three-point shots so they can find their stroke again in the Gold Dome.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will look to prevail and get a bid to the NCAA III Tournament that will start on the weekend of March 2nd.
