SAN ANTONIO – In a matchup of top-25 teams, the 16th-ranked Tiger women's tennis team netted an 8-1 win over 22nd-ranked Swarthmore College (PA) on Thursday afternoon.
Trinity upped its record to 9-1 this season, while Swarthmore fell to 3-3 after the loss. The Tigers swept doubles to start the day, then won four of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) and
Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) got things going in doubles with their 8-3 win at line three, then
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, Calif. / Weil Tennis Academy) and
Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Heritage) made it 2-0 Tigers with their 8-4 win at line two.
Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and
Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) earned a hard-fought 8-6 win at line one to complete the sweep.
Andrade and Hughes quickly added two more points for the Tigers as the first two finishers in singles. Andrade won 6-1, 6-0 at line five, while Hughes finished off a 6-1, 6-3 win at line two to clinch the Trinity victory. Levy followed with her win at #3 singles, but Swarthmore avoided the singles sweep by winning at line four. Cushing made it a 7-1 match with her win at line six, leaving just one match to play.
After a tough doubles match to start the day, Hill was also in a battle at #1 singles to close out the match. She won the first set 6-2, then lost a 7-6 (7-4) tiebreaker in the second. Hill finished with a solid 10-5 super tiebreaker win to polish off the Tiger victory.
