No. 16 Tiger Baseball Nabs Sweep Of Austin College

SHERMAN, TEXAS - No. 16 Tiger Baseball sweeps Austin College with back-to-back wins on Saturday.

The Tigers (21-7) notched an 8-6 and 4-1 win over the Roos of Austin College. Nicholas Lazzara (Carrollton, Texas / Jesuit College Prep) carried the offense today as he hit .800 (8-10) on the day. Lazzara's efforts also led to five RBIs. Kaleb Woodward (San Pedro, California / Palos Verdes Peninsula) also had an excellent day at the dish, collecting four hits and a double. On the hill, Jackson Teer (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) was lights out again as he tossed seven complete innings and only allowed one run as he earned the win. Trajan Lee (Dallas, Texas / John Paul II) was the other Tiger to earn a win when he went six innings and only allowed one to cross the plate. Jonathan Newman (Pearland, Texas / Pearland) went three shutout innings on his way to his first save of the season.

Game One - Tigers 8, Roos 6

The Tigers had the sticks going early as Jack Peterson (Round Rock, Texas / Round Rock) would lead off the game with a single to right. Woodward would find another hole on the right side to advance Peterson into scoring position with no outs. Lazzara would tag a ball through the right side of the infield to put up the first run of the game. After that taste of offense in the first, Trinity was ready to turn on the jets. With a runner on, Kai Tinker (Simi Valley, California / Grace Brethren) launched a ball over the left field wall to bring in two more Tigers. Woodward and Lazzara would both bring runners in during their at bats. Alex Monson (Houston, Texas / Memorial) drove in the next two runners with a single to right, and through one and a half innings it was already 7-0.

Austin College tried to answer in the third with two runs but Teer got out of the jam with minimal damage done. The next few innings came and went until the bats got relit in the 8th. Peterson found his way on again with a single and Woodward moved him over. Just like you draw it up in the playbook, Lazzara drove in Peterson with a hit to left and the Tigers went into the back end of the 8th up 8-2. The Roos rallied in the bottom half with four more runs and wanted to take that momentum into the 9th but Zack Balbin (San Marino, California / San Marino) shut the door 1, 2, 3 and Trinity won 8-6.

Game Two - Tigers 4, Roos 1

Trinity was ecstatic to put the nail in the coffin for the series sweep. Peterson led off with a walk and stole second in a hurry. Woodward moved him to third with a single of his own just for Lazzara to drive in a run with his scolding hot bat. Lee went through the Roos in order and TU was up 1-0 after one complete. Fast forward to the 3rd and the duo of Woodward and Lazzara were back on display. Woodward put himself into scoring position with a double and you guessed it… Lazzara was there to drive him in and now Trinity was up 2-0. Trinity brought another run across the plate with a double from Mattias Rytting (Houston, Texas / Bellaire) to make it 3-0. Same story, different inning during the fifth when Woodward got on with a single and scored on a hit from Lazzara and a miscue by the AC defense.

The good guys held Austin scoreless for six innings until the Roos finally scratched one across in the bottom of the 7th. However, that's the only run they'd score as the pitching and defense got the job done in the next two innings and TU completed the series sweep with a 4-1 win.
