Tiger Softball Leaps Over Austin College For Series Sweep

SAN ANTONIO - Trinity University Softball leaps over Austin College to claim series sweep on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers (22-9, 10-2 SCAC) only needed six innings to run-rule the Kangaroos of Austin College. Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, California) and Marina Delaluna (Concord, California / Concord) lead the Tigers with three hits each. Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) went 2-3 and had a team-leading 4 RBIs in the game. Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks), as well as Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian), also nabbed a pair of hits. Heather Nugent (Huntingdon Beach, California / Marina) claimed the save in the circle as she went 2.1 shutout innings to close out the game.

The Rundown

Austin College got on the board early with one run in the top half of the first but the Tigers were locked in this Sunday. Tagawa got on via the error and that would come back to haunt the Roos. Tagawa stole and Watson got on with a bunt hit to bring up Boudreaux. Just like her walk up song, Boudreaux made it a party with a screamer to right field and… ADIOS PELOTA, Boudreaux homers, and Trinity takes the lead 3-1 after one complete. Fast forward to the second, Zoe Frausto (Katy, Texas / Morton Ranch) led off the inning with a double that might have dented the wall. After a few more Tigers found their way on, Boudreaux brought in another off of a crucial error by the AC defense. The Tigers were up 4-1 with all the momentum.

The Roos cut the lead down to one by scoring one in the third and one in the fourth. However, Trinity answered back with a double by the RBI machine herself, Hannah Boudreaux. Nugent put up a goose egg in the top of the fifth to bring the bats back up. In the bottom of the innings, Delaluna added another extra-base hit for the Tigers with a double to right and after fouling off three straight, Angela Baltzell (Antioch, California / Freedom) found the pitch she wanted to drive the ball up the middle to extend the lead. Watson was the next Tiger to find a barrel as she pulled the ball to left to score two more and the TU lead was up to 5. After another bagel by Nugent, the Tigers were ready to end it early. Sydney Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) singled to center while Arce and Delaluna singled their way into a bases-loaded situation. Peyton Bowser (Arvada, Colorado / West) scored one with a seeing-eye single and two more Tigers would score while the Roo defense kicked the ball around. After the confusion, the ump raised his hands in the air to call "ball game" because the Tigers put the run rule into effect and… just like Darren Waller said, "IT'S A SWEEP".
