Trinity Women's Soccer is back on the pitch for their 2024 season.
Last Season
The Tigers finished their 2023 season with a 12-5-2 (7-0 SCAC) record and their 10th straight SCAC title. Heading into conference play with a 3-4-2 record, Trinity exploded and shut out all but one opponent on their way to a number one seed in the conference tournament. The SCAC Championship came down to the wire but
Clara Richards (Buffalo, New York / Williamsville South) put the game-winning goal into the back of the net to secure the victory. Head Coach
Dylan Harrison was tabbed SCAC Coach of the Year and fifth year
Bailey Meyer (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) nabbed SCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors to go along with 14 players placed on the all conference list. To go along with that, Meyer,
Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, New Mexico / Hope Christian), and
Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) were United Soccer Coaches All-Region selections.
This Season
Trinity will open their season against Occidental College on August 31st and Hardin-Simmons on September 1st. The squad will play a non-conference match against Texas Lutheran on September 6th. The Tigers will start conference play against McMurry and Concordia on October 4th and 6th. Trinity will close their regular season schedule against Ozarks and Centenary on November 1st and 3rd.
Offensively,
Michaela Bosco,
Abby Schneider (Albuquerque, New Mexico / Bosque School), and
Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) are all returning. The three dynamic threats accounted for 19 goals and 9 assists last season.
Ilsa Newland (St. Louis, Missouri / Kirkwood) and
Daryan Willard (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) will patrol the back line while
Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) will continue to be a force in goal.
Preview - Opening Weekend
The Tigers will step onto the pitch for the first time in the 2024 season against Occidental College on Saturday, August 31st at 6:00 PM. Then, they will match up against regional foe Hardin-Simmons on Sunday, September 1st at 6:00 PM.
On the Occidental Tigers: The Orange and Black Tigers ended the season with a 6-4-5 overall record and a 4-4-4 record in conference play. Throughout the season, Occidental showed inconsistency and faced significant defensive challenges. The team's goalkeepers had a save percentage of 0.781 from 118 shots and managed only two shutouts. Despite these issues, first-year player Mia Steadman was a standout performer for the team, scoring nine goals and adding an assist. Steadman will be a key player for Occidental this year. In their only meeting, Trinity defeated Occidental 1-0 in 2018.
On the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls: Hardin-Simmons finished the season with a strong 17-2-3 record and made it to the NCAA Third Round. They defeated the Tigers in the first round of the tournament but were later eliminated by the eventual National Champion, Cal Lutheran. The Cowgirls dominated their opponents, outscoring them 73-11 and conceding only 0.50 goals per game. Forward Lexi Templin will be back on the pitch, she led the team with 18 goals and four assists, while Gabby Aviles, who scored 12 goals last season, will also return to the field for Hardin-Simmons. In their regular-season match last year, the two teams drew 3-3, which brings their all-time record to 19-11-5.
Up Next
Trinity will head to Seguin to play against Texas Lutheran on September 6th and then be back at home against UT-Dallas on September 13th.
