SAN ANTONIO - The Trinity Tiger Volleyball team started the season off strong with a 3-0 sweep over the SUNY Cortland Volleyball team.

From the start of tonight's Friday night lights, the Tigers devastated the Red Dragons in the first set with a final score of 25-14.
Mackenzie Logan (Calgary, Canada / Bishop Carroll) destroys the players in red with seven out of her team-leading 17 kills for the match.Â

Taking the loss from the first set to heart, Cortland came out in the second set for revenge. After gaining a seven-point lead against the Tigers, our players in Maroon came fighting back to tie the score at 20-20. The rest of the set remained neck-and-neck until
Reagan Whatley (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands) sent the visitors back to the benches after delivering an absolute rocket the Red Dragons could not return. Whatley's kill concluded the second set with a score of 25-23, giving the Tigers the 2-0 lead.

Cortland was desperate for a win in the third to keep the match going, and both teams fought to keep the set close. On the net,
Taylor Starr (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) led the way with four blocks as
Courtney Pope (New Braunfels, Texas / Canyon) followed close behind with three. Trinity played an excellent game of defense throughout the night against the SUNY Dragons, racking up a total of 11 team blocks.Â

Jenna Rodriguez (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian) kept the third set alive by covering every corner of the court, earning 10 of her team-high 22 digs on the night. Tonight's matchup concludes after the Red Dragons eventually cracked under the pressure, and the third and final set ended with a 25-22 score on a hitting error by the visitors.
