AUSTIN, TEXAS - No. 20 Tiger Volleyball barrels over Concordia 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers (8-5, 3-1 SCAC) tacked on another sweep to conclude their second weekend of SCAC play.
Marissa Drange (Boerne, Texas / Champion) had an excellent afternoon, collecting 12 kills on a .476 hitting percentage while also leading the team with eight digs.
Maddie Fate (New York, New York / Croton Harmon) continues her hitting percentage tear this season as she has seven kills on a .429 hitting percentage.
Kendall DeRivel (Westlake Village, California / Viewpoint) spread the love with her team-leading 21 total assists and was a monster from the service line with six service aces. The Tigers add another to their perfect 19-0 all-time record against Concordia.
The Rundown
The Tigers carried their momentum from last night's match to this afternoon as they got out to a quick 2-0 start. Even though Concordia tried to keep it close,
Mackenzie Logan (Calgary, Canada / Bishop Carroll) killed three of the next four balls and extended the Trinity lead to four. The Tornadoes were on the wrong side of an impeccable 7-3 Tiger run and the Tigers blew the set wide open, 16-9. Drange put down two balls in a row and Trinity broke the 20-point mark. Concordia made a huge run late but a ball handling mistake by CTX ended the set and Trinity took it, 25-22.
Set two was the opposite of the first as the Tigers were down 9-5 early on. However, after another mistake by Concordia, Trinity was determined to close the gap.
Sophia Burke (Houston, Texas / Jersey Village),
Marissa Drange, and
Jenna Rodriguez (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian) were the catalyst in a Trinity run that brought the score to 11-10. Despite CTX scoring the next point and extending their lead to two,
Maddie Fate put a ball on the floor and put DeRivel on the service line. DeRivel and the Tigers went on an emphatic 11-0 run and now had a 21-12 lead. During that run, Kendall pulled out her favorite playing card, the Ace, three times. The Tiger train was rolling, and the Tornadoes were in the way. Whatley finished off set two for a 25-14 set win and a commanding 2-0 lead.
Kendall "Ace" DeRivel started set two with another service ace. Trinity and Concordia were at an 8-7 standoff when back-to-back kills by Burke and
Lauren McCarthy (Corrales, New Mexico / Horizon) sparked another huge 9-1 run by Trinity. Three kills later, the Tigers were just two points away from another conference win. The Tornadoes were not going to go down without a fight, though, as they scored six-straight. However, the good guys scored the next two points. The Tigers put the cold air inside the funnel and stopped the Tornadoes, winning set three 25-18 and took the match.
