The Rundown
Â
It took the Tigers over a minute to score their first basket, with Green putting in the opening points. However, the Crusaders quickly responded, jumping out to a commanding 23-12 lead. With 11 minutes remaining in the half, the Tigers began to claw their way back. The comeback started when Ty Williams (Pearland, Texas / Pearland) grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on a putback layup. Shortly after, Zach Fenn (Covington, Louisiana / Saint Paul's) poked the ball loose from the Crusaders, allowing Harvey to recover it and pass to a streaking Green for a powerful dunk that shifted the Tigers' momentum. On the next possession, Trinity's zone defense forced a bad pass, which Jacob Millhouse (Plano, Texas / Independence) intercepted before finding Harvey on the wing for a three-pointer. This quick 5-0 run cut the Crusaders' lead to four. The Tigers took their first lead of the game with eight minutes left when Millhouse intercepted another errant pass and scored an easy layup, bringing the score to 25-24. The teams traded baskets briefly before the Tigers closed the half on a 14-6 run, heading into the locker room with a 42-33 lead.
Â
In the second half, Millhouse scored a reverse layup just eight seconds in, extending the Tigers' lead to 11. A few minutes later, Rob Conrad (Cedar Creek, Texas / Cedar Creek) stole the ball, leading to Gabe Parr (Austin, Texas / Westwood) finishing the fast break with a tough hook shot over a Dallas defender. The Crusaders responded with an 8-3 run, cutting Trinity's lead to six with five minutes remaining. Four minutes later, another Dallas scoring surge narrowed the gap to four. However, the Tigers sealed the game by making all six of their free throws in the final moments, securing an 80-70 victory at Maher Gym.
