SAN ANTONIO – The #18 Trinity University women's swimming & diving team dominated Southwestern University on Saturday at Hixon Natatorium, cruising to a decisive 207-74 victory behind stellar individual and relay performances.
Trinity's depth was on display early, with the Tigers placing multiple relays in the top three of the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Jules Wiehrdt (Waco, Texas / Midway),
Diane Park (Beaverton, Ore. / Mountainside),
Rachel Brown (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus), and
Neely Burns (Phoenix, Ariz. / Thunderbird) took second in 1:38.07.
Erin Morie (St. Louis, Mo. / Cor Jesu Academy) highlighted the distance events with a commanding win in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking 11:12.82, while
Erica Peterson finished second in 11:24.68.
Audrey Jacobson (Dallas, Texas / School for the Talent and Gifted) continued the Tigers' momentum, leading a sweep of the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle with a winning time of 1:58.94.
Trinity had strong showings in the backstroke events as well. Wiehrdt placed second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.02, followed by
Sienna Nordquist (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) in third. In the breaststroke,
Lindsay McKinney (Victoria, Texas / Saint Joseph) led the way with a 1:10.53 finish in the 100-yard event, while Burns earned a dominant win in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking 2:28.37.
Burns added to her standout day with victories in the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.74) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.16), with Morie finishing second in the latter.
Amy Benson (Newmarket, N.H. / Phillips Exeter Academy) took top honors in the 50-yard freestyle, winning in 24.94, while
Julia Carter (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) led a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking 55.39.
On the boards,
Charlotte Brod (St. Louis, Mo. / Parkway North) swept the diving events, scoring 218.25 to win the 1-meter competition and 228.90 on the 3-meter board.
Kara Moss (Houston, Texas / Stratford) and
Alexana Heinrich (Lubbock, Texas / Lubbock) rounded out the podium in both events.
The Tigers capped their dominant performance with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Carter, Wiehrdt, Jacobson, and Benson combined for a winning time of 1:41.16.
