No. 6 Tiger Men's Soccer Steamrolls Centre

San Antonio, TX -  The No. 6 nationally-ranked Trinity University Men's Soccer Team continued its dominant run with a commanding 5-0 win over Centre College on Saturday afternoon at Paul McGinlay Field, extending its unbeaten conference start to 3-0-0 and improving to 10-0-1.

The Tigers wasted no time in the first half as they asserted control in the opening minutes, unleashing wave after wave of pressure that pinned Centre deep inside its own half. Their persistence paid off early, as senior captain Samuel Theiss (Boerne, Texas / Boerne) opened the scoring in the 13th minute as he capitalized on a rebound in the penalty area and sweetly struck home a half volley, notching his ninth goal of the season. Just seven minutes later, defender Luke Chandler (Glasgow, Scotland / Balfron) doubled the lead, heading home at the back post off a pinpoint corner by Alex Baltov (Shreveport, LA / Caddo Parish Magnet)

Trinity's relentless tempo never let up, and in the 25th minute, captain Zachary Anderson (Davis, Calif. / Davis) made it 3-0, smashing the ball into the bottom left-hand corner from the center of the box, after a slick passing sequence down the right flank involving fellow captains Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) and Theiss. The hosts entered halftime firmly in control, having outshot Centre 7-0 and forcing the Colonels to chase shadows the entire half.

Head Coach Paul McGinlay's side showed no signs of slowing down after the break. Defender Luke Mayfield (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) added a fourth in the 52nd minute, where once again Baltov whipped in a beautiful ball to the back post for Mayfield to head back down into the goal. The rout was completed in the 76th minute when, moments after entering the field, freshman Eduardo Parra (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma / Casady School) curled a beautiful shot with the outside of his right boot into the top left-hand corner from the right side of the penalty area, after a clever passage of play involving Thomas Kay (Stanstead Mountfitchet, England / The Bishops Stortford) and Clayton Holmes (San Antonio, Texas / Alamo Heights)

While the attacking display stole the headlines, the Tigers' defense was equally impressive. Goalkeepers Brandon Gongora (San Antonio, Texas / Madison) and Jayden Schell (Dallas, Texas / Plano) combined for the team's fifth clean sheet of the season, with Trinity allowing just one shot all night.

The Tigers dominated every statistical category, outshooting Centre 15-1 and winning 14 corner kicks to the Colonels' two. With this emphatic win, Trinity remains unbeaten in SAA play (3-0-0) and looks every bit the conference frontrunner heading into the season's home stretch.
