Tiger Women's Soccer Takes Down Centre

San Antonio - The Tigers were back at home after two weekends away. They came out on fire, ready to win their first SAA home game, and that's exactly what they did. The Tigers defeated the Colonels in a 2-0 win.

The Rundown

Despite what some might call a hot day for soccer, the Tigers were unfazed by the 86-degree weather, a relatively cool afternoon by San Antonio standards. From the opening whistle, it was clear the match would be played at a high tempo, with an emphasis on quick transitions and exploiting space. The Tigers wasted no time applying pressure, generating multiple dangerous scoring opportunities early on, though they struggled to convert. That changed in the 39th minute. Following a corner kick opportunity, midfielder Clara Richards (Buffalo, NY / Williamsville South) delivered a perfectly placed ball into the heart of the six-yard box. Center back Ilsa Newland (St. Louis, MO / Kirkwood) rose above the defense and met the cross with a powerful header, driving the ball into the back of the net and giving the Tigers the breakthrough they had been pushing for.

With momentum on their side, the Tigers headed into the half confident and ready to grow the scoreline, not giving the Colonels a chance to breath. They showcased strong passes throughout their attack, with smart vision to find the open player and create dangerous opportunities. They were hungry for another. In the 55th minute of the game forward Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) charged at their back line, creating space for midfielder Bri Werner (Woodbine, MD / Glenelg) to run in behind. Werner received a gorgeous pass into the box, turning the Colonel defense and sinking it into the high far corner of the net, making the match 2-0. For the remainder of the match, the Tigers held off the Colonel attack with ease, creating multiple more dangerous opportunities. They showcased their dominance and creative ability, making a clear statement they are here to win their new conference.
