DESTIN, Fla. – The No. 14 Trinity Men's Golf team surged into first place after their second round at the Golfweek October Classic.
The Tigers built on their strong opening round yesterday with a 286 today, taking them to 573 total (287-286). Trinity now holds a solo lead, one shot clear of Mary Hardin-Baylor and four shots clear of Southwestern. Trinity continued to thrive with their attacking style of play, carding 16 birdies and playing under par in both the par 3's and par 5's - the only team to do so. With one round to play the Tigers will look to keep their composure and produce a clinical third round to take home the title.
Sam Rossi (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) continues to impress, carding a one-under-par 70 to keep his lead at the top of the leaderboard. Rossi demonstrated his ability to play confident golf, carding five birdies with four coming through holes 8-12. His performance shows when he is dialed he is a difficult man to catch. Rossi will aim to carry this momentum into the final day and build upon his current -7 (65-70).
Jeffrey Forster (Santa Barbara, Calif. / San Marcos) shot a nearly flawless one-under-par 70 with just one bogey to his name. His two birdies on the front nine were followed by more steady golf, making Forster just one of twelve to go under par today. He moves into T-17 with a +3 total (75-70).
Carter Code (Calgary, Alberta, Canada / Manning) carded a strong one-over-par 72 with making 5 birdies along the way. He sits in T-13 with a +2 total (72-72).
Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) carded a three-over-par 74 with steady golf producing 14 pars around the tricky Raven Golf Club. Sandhu's efforts put him in T-47 at +7 (75-74).
Andre Follmer (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) matched his first-round score with a four-over-par 75. Follmer recovered from a tough front nine to go -2 after the turn and produce a strong score, leaving him in T-60 at +8 (75-75).
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will look to capitalize on two impressive days of golf and secure their second tournament win of the season, with final-round action coming tomorrow!
