The Rundown
The Tigers immediately let the Stormy Petrels know how the game was going to go, passing around them with ease, despite the Stormy Petrels home field advantage. Just 24 minutes into the match, Tigers forward
Madisyn Barganski (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff) earned a free kick right outside the box. Midfielder
Eli Kriek (New Orleans, La. / The Willow School) fired a perfect lofted ball into the box, where forward
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne) found the golden spot in the box to allow her head to meet the ball and knock it into the back of the net. Doran's goal put the Tigers up 1-0 going into the second half.
Going into the second half of the match, the Tigers were fired up and ready to increase the scoreline. Only five minutes into the second half, Kriek took a corner kick, once again perfectly putting the ball into the back post danger zone. Center defender
Ilsa Newland (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) finished the ball across the goal, making the match 2-0, as well as giving the Tigers their second header goal of the evening. This was Newland's third goal of the season. Only five minutes later, midfielder
Bri Werner (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) launched a ball from the Tigers' own defensive box. Doran received the ball just below the half field line, where she then proceeded to beat multiple Stormy Petrels, dribbling the ball all the way to the goal and finishing off the perfect attack with a goal, making the match 3-0. This is Doran's sixth goal of the season, as she now leads the team in goals. Although the Tigers did not find the net again, they continued to dominate the rest of the match, barely giving the Stormy Petrel's a chance to breathe. The opposition's only chance at an opportunity was swiftly taken away from midfielder
Isabella Rueda (Broomfield, Co. / Prospect Ridge Academy), putting a stop on their only attack.
The game was a perfect beginning to the Tigers run in a new conference, immediately setting the tone and letting the SAA know they are here to make their mark.
